Depending on where you live, kids may not be able to trick-or-treat, but Halloween can still be fun! We gave you our tips on how to enjoy Halloween 2020 and create some new traditions. A family movie marathon is fun, but it isn’t complete without the popcorn and some treats. You can have the best of both worlds and create these popcorn treats! We are sharing three of our favourite recipes below.
Recipe #1: Frankenstein Popcorn ‘Brain’
Frankenstein Popcorn ‘Brain’ Fun Halloween recipe of colored marshmallow coated popcorn formed into a brain shape for a giant spooky popcorn ball.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 25 minutes
Serves: 8
Ingredients
- PAM Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
- 1 bag (70 g) Orville Redenbacher’s Gourmet Sweet and Salty Popcorn
- 4-1/2 cups (1.050L) miniature marshmallows
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) soft margarine
- 5 drops green food coloring
- 3 drops yellow food coloring
- Cherry-flavored twist candy, optional
Directions
- Spray large bowl, rubber spatula and piece of waxed paper with cooking spray; set aside. Prepare popcorn according to package directions. Remove all unpopped kernels and place popped corn in large bowl.
- Microwave marshmallows and margarine in large microwave-safe bowl on HIGH 1 minute 30 seconds or until marshmallows melt and mixture blends when stirred. Add food coloring; stir to combine.
- Pour marshmallow mixture over popped corn. Toss with greased rubber spatula to coat. Cool 10 minutes or until mixture is easy to handle. Divide mixture and shape into 2 ‘brain lobes’. Place on waxed paper and press lobes together. Cool until set. Transfer to serving platter; decorate with candy, if desired.
Recipe #2: Gigantic Turtle Candies
Three pecan halves, making the turtle’s head and front legs, are topped with caramel coated popcorn, then covered with melted chocolate.
Prep time: 30 minutes
Cook time: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Serves: 21 (1 each)
Ingredients
- 1 pkg (99 g each) Orville Redenbacher’s Gourmet Buttery Flavour Microwave Popcorn
- PAM Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
- 63 pecan halves
- 1 pkg (14 oz each) caramels, unwrapped
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 2 tablespoons whole milk
- 1 pkg (12 oz each) semisweet chocolate morsels
Directions
- Prepare popcorn according to package directions.
- Remove all un-popped kernels.
- Place popped corn in large bowl; set aside.
- Spray 2 large baking sheets with cooking spray.
- Arrange 21 groups of three pecan halves in cloverleaf pattern on baking sheets.
- Place caramels, margarine and milk in microwave-safe bowl; microwave on HIGH 3 to 4 minutes or until caramels melt, stirring once.
- Pour over popcorn; gently toss to coat evenly.
- Cool 2 minutes.
- Spray hands with cooking spray.
- Shape popcorn into 1-inch mounds; press onto center of each pecan cloverleaf.
- Place chocolate morsels in microwave-safe bowl and microwave on HIGH 2 minutes or until smooth when stirred. Drizzle over each popcorn mound.
- Chill 1 hour or overnight.
Recipe #3: Princess Popcorn Balls
Princess Popcorn Balls Butter flavored popcorn coated with melted marshmallows for easy popcorn balls.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Serves: 8
Ingredients
- 1 bag (82 g) Orville Redenbacher’s Gourmet Buttery Microwave Popcorn
- PAM Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
- 3 Tbsp (45 mL) butter or margarine, melted
- 4 cups (1L) miniature marshmallows
- 3 drops food color (any color)
- Candy sprinkles, optional
Directions
- Microwave popcorn according to package directions. Remove any un-popped kernels.
- Spray a piece of waxed paper and large (4L) microwave-safe bowl with cooking spray. Add butter and marshmallows; toss to coat. Microwave on HIGH 1-1/2 minutes or until marshmallows are melted, stirring after 45 seconds. Stir in food colour.
- Add popped corn; stir gently until coated well. Cool 10 minutes or until popcorn mixture is easy to handle. Moisten hands with water; shape 1/4-cup (60 mL) mixture into 1-1/2-inch (4 cm) balls. Place on waxed paper. Decorate with sprinkles, if desired.
