If you’re like me and you’re a fan of frozen desserts, you’re going to love the Yonanas. A friend recently gave me an ice cream maker as a gift so that I can create delicious, healthy desserts. In fact, the resulting texture is rather creamy (very similar to frozen yogurt / a sorbet) and the flavour possibilities are infinite! It’s a great way to get your recommended daily intake of fruit, since the mix doesn’t contain any dairy products: just bananas (the main ingredient) and fruit of your choice. Whipping up the dessert is quite simple; start by freezing the bananas when they’re very ripe (with little black spots).

As for the flavours, you can use fresh fruit that has been frozen in advance, or frozen fruit bought at the grocery store. Let the ingredients thaw out about 30 minutes before whipping up the dessert. Then, add the bananas and the rest of the fruit one by one in the Yonanas machine, and voilà! The most surprising part? It’s so simple to use that you can even get the kids to help prepare dessert.

Yonanas Healthy Dessert Maker, $59.99 at Canadian Tire, Walmart and Hudson’s Bay.
