Between work, family, education, and household responsibilities, women are busier than ever. So often, the concept of time management feels like a lofty goal. We sacrifice doing the things we actually enjoy, never mind working on improving our health and wellness.

Let’s face it, that extra hour we so desperately want and need is not going to magically appear. What we can do, however, is optimize our time so we can fit in more of the things we love, including getting more of that much-needed sleep!

Timesavers for the House

  • Freeze extra portions. It’s a lifesaver for those weeks when there isn’t much time for cooking and grocery shopping. Cook more and freeze the extras so you have ready-made lunches and meals to pull out in a hurry.
  • Pack lunches and backpacks the night before. Get everyone’s clothes laid out at night too.
  • Delegate housework. If you have children, give them simple jobs like unloading the dishwasher or putting away laundry. Five minutes of time here and there adds up and your children can feel the satisfaction of contributing to the upkeep of the home too.
  • Pay your bills using online banking. Say goodbye to those rushed after-work trips to the bank by choosing to bank from the comfort of your own home. By installing your bank’s app, you can even move money between accounts and pay bills on-the-go.

Timesavers for Work

  • Plan ahead. Take the first ten minutes of your day to plan out what you need to accomplish during the day. Interruptions and emergencies are inevitable, so a guide for your day will help you get back on track quickly when life throws you a curveball.
  • Organize your inbox. If your email inbox feels overwhelming, try tackling time-sensitive emails first. Colour code critical emails from your manager or clients so they don’t get missed, and enable keyword or email address sorting rules for lower-priority emails to categorize and prioritize for later.

Timesavers for Health and Wellness

  • Join a 24-hour gym. Working out at peak-times can be overwhelming. Get errands done during gym rush hour and plan your workout time at off-peak times so you can avoid busy change rooms and wait times at machines.
  • Workout with a good friend once a week. When life gets busy, catching up with friends and working out often face the chopping block. Creating intentional wellness time with friends is not only a great motivator, but it ensures you’re staying in touch with those you care about and getting that healthy dose of socialization that’s an important and often neglected party of our journey to overall wellness.
  • Take advantage of grocery delivery services. Imagine fresh produce and healthy meals delivered right to your doorstep, all from the click of a button. This will save you a trip (or trips) to the grocery store each week and means you’ll skip those hunger-fuelled trips down the snack aisle that can derail us.
