New Year’s resolutions can be achieved if we set them right. The new year is the perfect opportunity to re-set your intentions and set the tone for our next 12 months. With the lockdown, we have become reacquainted with ourselves and those who are close to us, whether we like it or not. Take advantage of this awareness and start new adventures in the new year. Mindset is key. Let’s shift from a checklist of “resolutions” to a more tangible journey of “intentions.”
Curate a Realistic Journey of Progression & Achievements
Mindset is everything and as a part-time fitness, yoga & mindfulness coach, I help my clients set goals that are gaited with progressive milestones for achievements. Do the same, set goals that include attainable ones mixed with longer-term push goals. Be your own cheerleader.
NEVER Too Old to Dream & Have Fun with Resolutions
Resolutions are hopeful. Rediscover your inner child and shine. Resolutions can include making more time for play and doing what you enjoy – they don’t all have to be serious.
Turn Resolutions to Intentions
Intention or Sankalpa in Sanskrit is from the heart and mind. Sankalpa means to focus both psychologically and philosophically on a specific goal. Since shifting my mindset from resolutions to intentions, I have made huge personal strides, including finishing my thesis for example. So make sure to include what’s in your heart, no matter how big and small the goal.
Intentions are Personal & Do Include Yourself
Never trivialize your inner wants and desires. Make them more mindful and include things money cannot buy. And make sure it comes from the right place because Karma can come back to haunt you. Focus on yourself and your family. Remember, the list is a balance of yourself and your loved ones. A happier you makes you more pleasurable to deal with.
Spend Time to Make a List & Prioritize It
Spend 15 minutes a day for a couple of days. Revisit the list and prioritize the items on it. Take the extra step to classify them as easy, medium or difficult. Balance the easily achievable items with the not-so-easy ones. This will help you feel a sense of progression and energize you to face the more difficult ones. Revisit the list every few months and update it.
Your Personal Journey is Not a Race
First thing, start with the abundance mindset of “there is plenty out there and enough to spare for everybody.” This is NOT a competition but about personal growth and mental health. Yes, you do deserve it and have fun doing it.
Be Kind to Yourself When You Check In
Form your mindful intentions when you start on this journey. Be even kinder when you go back to review the list each time. Celebrate each milestone quietly or with a bang. By balancing the list with some achievable goals, you are on your way to developing the mindset to conquer the world.
Your Journey is Never Absolute
Remember, you can change and update your intentions based on changing situations or needs. Please do not see it as a failure, but rather a smart adaptation.
Transform Your New Year’s Resolutions for Intentions
Turn your New Year’s resolutions into intentions. Take your time and create a list of attainable and push goals. Listen to your heart. Treat them like a journey of personal growth. Be kind to yourself along the way, and don’t forget to have fun.
