If I told you that a blanket can help you fall asleep faster, reduce your stress level and improve your mood, would you believe me? Weighted blankets are more popular than ever because they reduce anxiety and improve sleep. Keep reading to find out how weighted blankets work, their benefits and we recommend several options.

What is a weighted blanket ?

Weighted blankets are heavier than ordinary blankets weighing between 10 and 20 pounds. The additional weight minimizes sudden movements helps regulates sleep. But how do they work? Weighted blankets are filled with glass beads which distribute their weight evenly over your body. They act on the neurological level by reducing physical agitation and putting pressure on the body. It will keep you calm, slowing down your heart rate and dropping your blood pressure. The weight of the blanket increases serotonin and melatonin levels, the hormones responsible for regulating your sleeping pattern and mood. It is easier to fall asleep once those two hormones levels are higher. The weighted blanket can also decrease cortisol levels, the stress hormone, which will help you feel calmer.

As mentioned above, there is different weights available for the blankets; 10 pounds, 12 pounds, 15 pounds and 20 pounds. The weight of the blanket should represent 10% of your actual weight to reap all the benefits.

Choosing a weighted blanket – the options:
