With technology improving all the time, people are becoming much more open to the idea of remote working. Working away from the office allows employees to have a much better work/life balance and employers are catching on to the benefits that this way of working can have on their business. Exploring things like how to pay their employees and how to make a hybrid or remote way of working for everyone has opened up a world of opportunities.

However, it isn’t just employees that are starting to enjoy the opportunities this way of life is bringing. Students are fast realizing that studying remotely allows them to gain qualifications while enjoying life. For many, this means being able to relocate abroad or travel while studying. We took a look at why are students choosing Canada to study.

Moving to Canada

Depending on where you currently live in the world and how long you wish to stay in Canada, you may need to follow some official steps before you can move here. These aren’t complicated steps but they do need to be carried out before you move to Canada and become a student. It’s also worth considering what your lifestyle is going to be like here – for example, will you be looking for work or will your money come in from elsewhere? If you are going to be relying on family support then, sending money online would be an ideal option. There are many online money transfer services out there and investigating the best companies to send money online is highly recommended. That way you can feel confident that you are organized for all eventualities.

You’ll need a study permit before you’re able to move to Canada, so it is worth looking into the steps to obtain this in advance.

The first thing you should do is enrol in a Designated Learning Institution – so choose where you want to go to school and what you want to study. The Designated Learning Institution that you choose will be able to provide you with an acceptance letter which you’ll need for your study permit application. When you go through the application process, they are likely to ask you for:

  • Proof of funds
  • Proof you have no criminal record
  • Proof you have intentions to leave when your permit expires
  • Proof you have undertaken a medical exam and are in good health.

You’ll need to put this all together in an application pack alongside proof of ID and a letter that details why you want to study in Canada. Details of the family financial support you will have is a good idea too, which is why investigating your money transfer options and how your family will be able to get funds to you when needed is important.

What do Students Need When Studying in Canada?

With the idea of remote studying becoming more popular, students can potentially choose to settle anywhere in the world to live their best student life, so why do so many choose Canada? According to the World University Rankings of the top 100 best student cities in the world, Canadian cities take up 4 of the top stops. Not only that, but when it comes to the standard of living for students, Canada ranks #1. One of the great things about Canada is that there are so many cities for students to choose from. Those that want to study there should research which cities are suitable for them and match this with what entertainment the city offers to ensure that they pick the best place for them to settle as a student. Popular universities in Canada include:

  • University of Toronto
  • McGill University
  • University of Alberta
  • Dalhousie University
  • University of Waterloo

Not only does Canada have some great options when it comes to places to study while you’re living there, but there is plenty to do in the way of entertainment too. Just because you’re living in another part of the world doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t enjoy yourself while you are there. Most university campuses offer a variety of entertainment options for international students including a variety of extracurricular activities and clubs. On top of that many of them offer a range of social clubs that both Canadian and international students can take part in – a great way for those that have travelled to the country to meet new people.

There are usually a range of classes which means that whatever you enjoy there should be something to suit you and your needs – and help ensure that you meet people that have similar interests to you. Of course, studying is going to be a big part of your life as a student in Canada, so joining some academic clubs is a good idea too – this allows you to get support with your learning, discuss relevant academic topics and learn from a variety of people.

Making Life as an International Student Easier

Whatever your reasons for relocating to another country, it stands to reason that you are going to want to do what you can to make life as easy as possible. For example, investigating money transfer options in advance so that if there is ever a time you need emergency financial support you know you’re set up and ready to go. Research is the key when it comes to making life easier – for example, looking up the city you want to live in before you commit and making sure that it is going to suit the things you need from life.

As far as you becoming a student in Canada goes, making sure you’re organized in advance and have everything you need to apply for a student permit can help to make life easier and the process a little quicker. The process may not seem like the easiest when you first get started but looking online will help you find a wealth of advice and support. Don’t forget that Canada is deemed one of the best places to study in the world so even if it does take a few weeks of paperwork and research, you can be sure in the long run it will be well worth your time.
