Life has changed since COVID-19, and now that all of Canada is into phase three, it is interesting to see what the “new normal” looks like.  We are now living in a faster pace than we have since March.  Businesses are fully re-opened, for the most part, and people are trying to live their lives in a responsible, but enjoyable way.  In some ways, the pandemic sped up changes that were already coming as part of the digital landscape.  We recently spoke to Val Desjardins, of PUMP Fitness MTL about her thoughts on the future of fitness in a post-COVID world.

Gyms, Personal Training and The Future of Fitness

The main issue with gyms is that you have people that go to use the weights and cardio machines.  The trend though, was to have 40 people in an exercise class enjoying that feeling of community. Val pivoted her business to focus more on personal training.  Her focus will be on supporting people through the psychology of working out through their own fears about the pandemic.

Future of Fitness: Digital Studio

Workouts Are Changing And Trainers Will Too

People are getting smarter and trying different types workouts.  The industry is changing in a way that is interesting.  It’s turned into more of an individual workout where you create your own adventure.  You may end up at a gym less often, but gyms will also have more digital offerings. It will be a growth experience for the clubs, trainers and clients.  You cannot deny the economic impact of the pandemic.  Gyms and fitness studios will have to reduce their spaces.  More people will have their own “home studio”.

Val is excited about it because it means a more personalized approach, more personal training and being more selective about how you work out and who you work out with.  There will be a leveling up of the expertise of personal trainers.  If you don’t know the physiology of the body, you can’t train people digitally because you can’t speak the language.  Workouts can now truly be on-demand through the advent of the digital studio you can access workouts wherever you want whenever you want.

Val recently launched PUMP Fitness Digital Studio designed for all levels and fitness goals. Learn more here.
