Tis the season to be cozy. Who doesn’t love snuggling up on the couch in your winter pajamas with a roaring fire, a cup of hot chocolate and your favourite holiday movies? It’s the perfect way to get into the spirit of the season (and avoid snowstorms). We are sharing our list of the top movies to find comfort and joy with from the quirky to classic and of course some Hallmark favourites:
Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas Available on The Roku Channel
In this Roku Original, on her first holiday without her father, Zoey attempts to create a magical Christmas for her family just like the one Mitch used to do. Fans of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist will love this holiday movie BUT you can still enjoy it, even if you have never watched the show. The self-contained story has everything that you want in a holiday movie and more. Quirky intelligent humour, a touching story of hope and resilience and a happy ending.
Eight Gifts of Hanukkah – Stream On The Global TV App/Watch On Stacktv
A woman journeys to find her secret admirer during Hanukkah. The Festival of Lights may be over, but this feel-good movie is still fun to watch during the holiday season.
The Nine Kittens of Christmas – Stream On The Global TV App/Watch On Stacktv
Cat lovers Zachary and Marilee are thrown back together at Christmas when they’re tasked with finding homes for a litter of adorable kittens. A handsome fireman and adorable kittens? What more do we need? Maybe a glass of wine.
Jingle Jangle – Netflix
Decades after being betrayed by his apprentice, a once joyful toy maker finds new hope when his bright young granddaughter arrives on his doorstep. With an all-star cast including Academy Award winning actor, Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose and Ricky Martin, high production value, magic and song and dance, this is a modern classic the entire family will enjoy watching together for years to come. It is one to put on your holiday movies must-see list.
Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch – Amazon Prime
A grumpy Grinch (Benedict Cumberbatch) plots to ruin Christmas for the village of Whoville. The holidays wouldn’t be complete without everyone’s favourite mean one – the Grinch! The classic cartoon with Bela Lugosi will always be a family favourite, but this modern version measures up.
BONUS – Die Hard – Amazon Prime
There is always a debate if Die Hard belongs on a list of holiday movies. We say yes it does. Yes, it’s an action movie, yes, terrorists take over an office building BUT the hero is doing what he has to do to save the woman he loves so that he can spend Christmas with his family. It belongs on the list and it is a fair trade off. The Nine Kittens of Christmas for you and Die Hard for him. Everybody wins.
