Life can move pretty fast, and if you are tired of feeling as though it is just happening to you instead of being something you are actually present in and part of, it is probably time to start to live a more intentional life. That sounds like a nightmare to put into practice, but the good news is that it is not so bad. It is not about making massive, dramatic changes in a short span of time, so it may not be as difficult as you might think. With that in mind, keep reading to find out how to slow down, focus more, and actually enjoy the life you are living.

Work Out What Matters To You

If you want to live intentionally, you have got to know what you are actually aiming for, which is why it is vital to take a step back and ask yourself a few important questions. Once you do, and once you have been honest with yourself about the answers, you will be much clearer on things and you’ll know what path to take when you need to make a decision. You can also look at what changes you need to take right now to make that happen.

So what are these questions? Here are a few to think about:

  • What makes me feel happy?
  • What fulfills me?
  • What do I wish I had more time for?
  • What feels like a waste of time?
  • What drains my energy?

As you can see, knowing what you want and what you don’t want is going to set you off in the right direction for a better life.

Say No More Often

One of the most difficult parts to get right when it comes to more intentional living is to set boundaries, which basically means saying no to things that aren’t going to help you do what you want to do or that you don’t have time for. That could be an event, a work project you know you are not going to be able to give your all to, or anything else that pops up in life.

If you are like most people, you will say yes to things to avoid confrontation and to be a people pleaser, but the problem is when you say yes to everything, you won’t have any time for yourself – plus you might find yourself burning out and being miserable. Saying no will feel selfish at first, but if you do it politely and say yes when it makes sense to, people will understand. They might even start to live their lives in the same way!

Pay Attention To Your Health

Living intentionally is not just about having big goals and aiming for them – it is also about taking care of yourself and that means prioritizing your health even if it feels like it is not all that important. The truth is, it is always important, and even small issues can turn into bigger ones over time if they are ignored.

For example, when did you last think about getting your hearing checked? Most people ignore their hearing until it becomes an issue, but if you are more proactive about it and have an annual test, you can get ahead of any problems. If you want to gain more insights into why an annual hearing test is important, you can do some research about it because now is the perfect time to start paying attention and make sure you are taking care of yourself.
