Canada House in LA opened its doors to host a reception on March 9th in celebration of the 95th Academy Awards. The Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles, Zaib Shaikh and Telefilm Canada welcomed this year’s Canadian Oscar nominees and VIP guests to Canada House.

“Canadians in film don’t just help generate billions of dollars for the Canadian economy but are also, once again this year, being recognized as amongst the best, most talented creators and creatives in the industry,” said Zaib Shaikh, Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles. “It is an honour to celebrate their success, and to highlight the diversity that is inherent to Canadian storytellers. It is clear that the stories Canadians choose to tell resonate with global audiences everywhere because they explore universal truths, highlight values of inclusivity and showcase human perseverance.”

On hand were actor Brendan Fraser from The Whale and writer/director Sarah Polley just days before their Academy Award wins. Also attending were actors Sheila McCarthy, Kate Hallet, and Kira Guloien from Women Talking; writer/director Domee Shi and actor Maitreyi Ramakrishnan from Turning Red.

Other VIPS attending the festivities at Canada House included directors Ina Fichman (Fire of Love), Oscar-winner Chris Williams (The Sea Beast), Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby (The Flying Sailor). Eric McCormack, Nia Vardalos, Tantoo Cardinal, Kristian Bruun, were also among those that joined the celebratory event.
