DIVINE x Appleton Estate

Self-isolating has made us all talented. Some are exploring their inner chef.  Many people have become expert bakers.  Others are wizards at hosting virtual cocktail parties.  I have been doing a combination of the three.  At one virtual cocktail party, we were challenged to make something that we have never made before.

I am not a mixologist, but I wanted to make something that looked impressive and I remembered that I had the recipe for Appleton Estate’s Original Daiquiri but I was missing white sugar to make simple syrup.  Joy Spence, Appleton Estate’s Master Blender mentioned that she loves this cocktail with brown sugar.  The only thing that I had on hand that I could substitute was maple syrup.  It actually tastes amazing and when you can’t go out and easily get an ingredient, it is an easy substitution.  Spence recommended the Appleton Estate 8-Year Old Reserve that launched in March as part of the global introduction of the new Appleton Estate. Its smooth flavour is perfect with the original recipe and the new take on the Estate Daiquiri.  Cheers!

The Original – The Estate Daiquiri

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Appleton Estate 8YO Reserve
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1⁄2 oz simple syrup (cane syrup preferred)
  • Orange peel (garnish)

Directions

  • Shake all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice.
  • Shake until the shaker is “frosted”.
  • Strain into a coupe glass (NO ice).
  • Garnish with orange peel.

The Remix – The Maple Estate Daiquiri

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Appleton Estate 8YO Reserve
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce of maple syrup
  • Orange peel (garnish)

Directions

  • Shake until the shaker is “frosted”.
  • Strain into a coupe glass (NO ice).
  • Garnish with orange peel.
