When it comes to your health, there are so many things to stay ahead of. It’s very easy to neglect certain areas because you feel as though things will be absolutely fine. Whether it’s part of your daily wellness routine or something a little more specific, you should take your health very seriously. Something we often ignore is our hearing. We only ever seem to focus on hearing health when something significant happens. We take it for granted every single day because we are used to it.

Lots of different factors can affect your hearing every single day, and you might not even notice some of them. Obviously, you know that you need to avoid loud noises and persistent damage, but there are lots of surprising factors that come into play when it comes to hearing health. The more you know about certain factors, the better protected you will be for the years ahead. Here are a few surprising factors that may be affecting your hearing health:

Pollution And Overall Air Quality

Poor air quality can have a huge impact on your hearing. You typically think about it affecting your lungs, but studies have shown that exposure to pollution can restrict the blood flow to the vessels in your inner ear. As time moves on, this damage leads to hearing loss. Indoor air pollution from certain cleaning products or smoking can have a similar impact. Do what you can to improve air quality within your home by working on better ventilation or adding air purifiers.

Stress Levels Left Unmanaged

Chronic stress can be a significant factor in hearing health. Stress triggers the release of cortisol, which then reduces blood flow and oxygen to the ear. It can contribute to hearing loss or tinnitus if it is consistent. Prioritize stress management strategies such as mindfulness, meditation and exercise. It doesn’t mean you have to entirely transform your schedule, but fitting in a few of these strategies every week can be extremely helpful for your ear health.

Side Effects Of Medication

Of course, medications are there to help you, but certain medications can damage the auditory system. The risk will be higher with prolonged use or significantly high doses. Be mindful of the side effects when taking medication by reading labels and consulting your doctor. In some cases, medication can prevent long-term damage.

The Function Of Your Devices

The quality of any hearing devices you possess may have a huge impact on your hearing health. Of course, a hearing aid is supposed to help you every single day. When it comes to choosing the right hearing aids, you should take things seriously because it may have a huge impact on your well-being. A faulty device can end up being too loud and causing more damage or may simply not work and make life more of a struggle. Making sure your devices are perfect for your situation is vital if you ask somebody who relies on hearing aids.
