Figuring out your winter wardrobe can be a a difficult task for many people, for others it requires a meticulous plan to achieve. Most fall somewhere between these two extremes. But if you have a full wardrobe already, you may be questioning what you can even add. If you have most of the gear you need – comfortable boots, wooly hats, scarves and more, you may think you’re sorted and maybe so!
But even then, it can be wonderful to add a few new garments to really that express who you are during the colder weather, to feel renewed, and to simply have fun with a new trendy, fashionable item.
This way, even if your wardrobe is already stuffed, we hope you can find inspiration in making a few adjustments for the upcoming season:
Comfortable Pullovers
Sometimes you just want to sink into a garment but still look good, the winter range at Gentle Fawn is perfect for that. You can enjoy soft, slightly oversized sweaters that wrap you up like a warm hug with materials that feel good against your skin. That might include merino wool, cotton blends, or even fuzzy fleece options that make you feel warm and cozy at home.
The key is finding something that feels comfortable whether you’re working from home or heading out for a quick coffee run. That’s why just opting for oversized clothing isn’t always the best, but looking for items that fit you, feel complimentary and elegant can give you a big confidence boost. Who said comfort in winter has to be baggy and frumpy?
Indulgent Cardigans
If you’re not particularly a cardigan person, it can be worth rethinking that. Cardigans are so comfortable, but you can wear them in a range of fun designs that are fashionable. You can even knit them if you wish to, and most choose to do exactly that as a fun winter project.
In very cold temperatures, they’re also perfect for layering and adding a bit of personality to your outfit if needed. There are different styles and lengths too, as long, flowing cardigans that sweep past the knees can seem a little more refined, but if you just prefer thicker materials like wool to cover your torso, that’s fine too. The good thing about cardigans is that they’re very versatile and if they are classics, they will look different depending on what you layer them with. You can have two of these on top of your usual winter wardrobe and be totally fine.
Thermal Garments
You don’t have to go for clothes you wear and that can be seen. In winter, maybe you just want to wear your usual clothes but feel a little warmer in those chill winds. Now you can find super thin, heat-trapping thermal pieces that slide under your regular clothes without making you feel like a stuffed sausage. They’re especially great for people who get cold easily or spend time outdoors and include apparel such as thermal vests or long johns under your trousers.
Thermal socks are also lovely too and believe us, you won’t want to take them off. You get to decide the thickness and even how waterproof they are depending on your needs. Again, if your wardrobe is already stuffed to the brim, then you don’t need to worry about adding even more here, you can just fold and store these in a chest of drawers nearby – or where you store your other underwear.
Fingerless Gloves
These are basically perfect for anyone who needs to use their phone, type on a keyboard, or just wants some hand warmth without total coverage – and again, you can keep gloves in a drawer without taking up too much space.
Knitted versions are classic and perfect for winter (again, it’s another winter project you might want to try), but leather and wool blends offer something a bit more refined and you can drive with the former if you need to. They’re practical and can add an element of style to your outfit.
Thick Slippers
There’s nothing quite as comfortable as a pair of good house slippers during winter – and in some cases you can even wear them to the local store/shop in them. Look for features like good arch support, warm lining, and maybe a sole that lets you quickly grab the mail or walk the dog when needed – these need to have solid bottoms that can still be safe. Wool, fleece, and memory foam are comfortable for tired feet too.
With this advice, you’ll be certain to enjoy a few, but not too many, adjustments to your winter wardrobe!
