Doors are an integral part of any home, but if you want to make a relatively simple home improvement without spending a fortune, upgrading your doors could make a massive difference. In this article, we will look at the different types of doors you can buy, and then discuss the reasons why upgrading from an old timber door will be well worth the money.

Choose from Different Styles of Door

There are several different styles to choose from, but the three main ones are:

  • Composite and UPVC doors – these are what most people choose when they upgrade their front door or back door. They offer a big step up from older timber doors. There are many different designs, and also glazing options. Pick something decorative or opt for a plain door in a traditional design instead. Check your options at a local Belfast doors
  • Bi-fold doors are becoming increasingly popular with homeowners, as they are perfect if you want to create an indoor/outdoor living space. Fit bi-fold doors between your living room and garden, so in the summer, you can open them wide and make the most of the fantastic weather.
  • Patio doors are a traditional style of door between a living room and the garden. They operate on a sliding mechanism and are less expensive than French Windows.
  • French Windows suit most rooms. They fit smaller openings compared to patio doors, so if you want to replace a window with a door into the garden, this is a good option.

Better Insulation

One advantage of replacing an older door with a brand-new UPVC or composite door is that it will offer you better insulation. Energy efficiency is important considering the cost of heating homes is at an all-time high. UPVC doors are very well insulated. Composite doors in particular are built with a dense inner core that is coated with an external plastic shell. They have excellent thermal insulating qualities as a result.

Boost Appeal

Curb appeal is important, especially if you plan on selling your home. People do pay attention to the door when looking at properties and a smart new front door could be a selling point. Composite doors come in a big range of colours, from traditional black and white to sage green, blue, and even pink if you are feeling adventurous.

Improved Security

Don’t overlook the importance of security. A door is a major point of vulnerability in any home, and older doors are especially vulnerable to break-ins. Modern UPVC and composite doors come with enhanced security features, such as impact-resistant glass and superior locking mechanisms. While no door is 100% resistant to a break-in, with a locked UPCV door your home is significantly more secure than if you have an old wooden door with a yale lock.

UPVC French windows, bi-fold doors, and patio doors are also more secure, thanks to 5-point locking mechanisms.

UPVC doors are a great investment, so consider upgrading your doors today – they help improve a home.
