Ever since Ontario began regulating the online gambling market, online gambling has become popular amongst both women and men. According to Ipsos, 47 percent of adults in Ontario have partaken in some form of gambling online, whether it be slots, lottery or table games. While casinos have existed for a long time, online casino gambling has surpassed in-person gambling since it became legal. This has become the case for Canadian women.

Canadian Women Partake In Gambling

According to a study of 4,500 Quebecers, more women began online gambling during the pandemic. Even though men accounted for the majority of gamblers, women were still partaking in gambling. According to the Concordia University researcher of the study, the women prefer gambling games as a way to relax and take their minds off of things.

It is essential to look at the differences in male and female participation. According to the researcher, women have been underrepresented when researching gambling. Therefore, there isn’t much information on their gambling habits, resulting in a lack of information specifically targeted at the women who gamble.

The Preferred Games

While sports betting is one of the preferred types of games among men, it is not the case for women. The women are more likely to play games of chance, which is why they choose to participate in games like bingo, lottery and slots. The men look for thrill-seeking games, while women will prefer games that take a bit longer and where the stakes are lower.

Luckily for these women, there is a plethora of options at Casino Days platform, where there are over 5,000 games to choose from. With everything from slots to jackpots, female gamblers can try different games. Because many bonuses are available, choosing between other casino games is even more favourable.

The Appeal Of Gambling

As women prefer longer games where they can get immersed, they are more likely to try out games like bingo and lottery. However, changing gambling habits by trying casino games like slot machines can create necessary variation. The games’ versatility might also draw more women gamblers to online casinos. Furthermore, there is a chemical response, which can attract more females to gamble.

When we decide to go shopping for new clothes, our brains release endorphins and dopamine, which give a sensation of instant gratification. This is why shopping can also be related to getting a ‘shopper’s high.’ When women gamble, they can experience the same type of rush. When women get to redeem an award, this also triggers the reward system in the brain. This excites gamblers, which can make them continue playing even more. However, when the reward system is altered by problem gambling, this can result in new habits that can become difficult to break off.

Seeking Help

If gambling is taken too far, this can lead to problem gambling. There isn’t a single factor which decides whether a gambler will experience problem gambling or not. These factors can be factors like environment, background, age and socioeconomic status, which affect the likelihood. The typical symptoms include maxing out credit cards and neglecting their family and friends. Women are not immune to problematic habits, which is why experts are looking into researching more about their gambling habits.

By understanding their habits, it is easier to offer them the right help. Furthermore, a controlled and regulated gambling market can make it less likely for gamblers to develop problem gambling. Regulated online casinos will also provide resources to prevent problem gambling, which is why gamblers are advised only to play on regulated sites.
