Say Yes to Happiness at Work

Everyone has challenges in the workplace.  We are living in a time where companies are downsizing and we have to work harder with fewer resources at our fingertips.  There are ways to stay positive at work though.  A new outlook may mean more opportunities for you.  We are all the creators of our own work experience. Taking a few simple steps can lead to saying yes to happiness where we spend a good chunk of our time – the workplace.  Here are our tips:

  • Embrace Mistakes: Unless you are a brain surgeon, then do not make any!  Seriously though, most of us will at some point or another make an error, which in the moment will seem catastrophic.  Most of the time, it isn’t, so take it as an opportunity to learn where you went wrong and recover.
  • Do Not Neglect Your Health: We often use the “I’m too busy” excuse when it comes to health.  You may not be able to leave work on time to take an exercise class during the week, but everyone can find a few minutes to go for a walk and get some fresh air.  Eating well also helps.  It is easy to fall into the office trap of eating birthday cake, digging into the candy dish or grabbing a breakfast sandwich on-the-go.  Packing lunch or even just some healthy snacks to munch on throughout the day helps with cravings.  It is also a good idea to take a probiotic supplement, like koena, which has four different formulas for adults, to help your gastrointestinal health.  If you feel better, you can perform better at work.

Koena: Happiness at Work

  • Find Something to Love: There is always at least one aspect of a job that you find enjoyable.  I love writing, and thanks to my job, I get to do a lot of it.  There will always be an element of the mundane in any role, but focusing on the good can help you enjoy the day-to-day more.
  • Form Friendships: You spend a lot of time at work, and often, it is the people that make it enjoyable.  Why not serve on a social committee, ask a colleague for coffee to learn more about what they do, or join your work’s volunteer squad if you want to meet more people?  If you have your close-knit group already, try to leave the office once a week for lunch.  It will give you some needed time away from the daily grind and help you form more tight-knit relationships.
  • Be an Expert at Something: In essence, be the invaluable go-to person.  Whether it’s fixing the photocopier or knowing something that your company specializes in, you really need to find your area and become a true expert.  It will not only widen the circle of people that you know, it will also increase your profile.

What are your tips for creating happiness at work?  We want to know!
