On Wednesday, September 6th, Fairmont Royal York, in partnership with the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards (CAFA), celebrated the second ever The Grandest Night of Fashion. The event was hosted in the lobby of the landmark hotel by actress Sarah Rafferty of the upcoming Netflix show, My Life with the Walter Boys. The Grandest Night of Fashion, is a tribute to emerging and established fashion talent. It was open to the public, inviting spectators to embrace Canadian and global design through the lens of fashion in film. The timing was impeccable with TIFF just around the corner.
The Grandest Night of Fashion showcased more than 70 looks highlighting the versatility and inventiveness of the designers. The lineup featured new and established designers including Harry Rosen, Frascara, Steven Lejambe, Lotus Bloom, Golshaah, TNT, Milli, House of Gallagher, MANCE, Freda’s, Audrey + Brooks, and Lilliput Hats; as well as returning designers Alan Anderson, King and Bay, Rita Tesolin, and NARCES.
Actress Sarah Rafferty spoke candidly of her close personal connection to Toronto and Fairmont Royal York, which has long played a crucial role in the evolution of the city’s fashion and entertainment scene, and has acted as the backdrop for some of the most iconic fashion moments in film.
Wearing looks by Canadian designers Greta Constantine and Beaufille, Rafferty was joined by a mix of professional models and notable Toronto personalities on the catwalk including Lauren Chan (wearing Milli), Myles Sexton (wearing NARCES), Sangita Patel (wearing Lotus Bloom), Justice and Nia Faith (wearing TNT), and last year’s inaugural host, fashion legend Jeanne Beker (wearing Freda’s).
