Big news for plant-based eaters and anyone looking to mix things up at mealtime. McDonald’s Canada is officially adding the McVeggie sandwich to its national menu on September 16th.
After a test run earlier this year in British Columbia, Ontario, and New Brunswick that earned rave reviews, the McVeggie is making its way to participating restaurants across the country.
So, what’s inside? The McVeggie features a breaded veggie patty created specifically for Canadians. It’s made with a blend of carrots, green beans, zucchini, peas, soybeans, broccoli, and corn. Then it’s seasoned and layered with shredded lettuce and a creamy mayo-style sauce on a toasted sesame bun. If you’re looking for something with more bite, the Spicy Habanero McVeggie adds McDonald’s signature creamy Habanero sauce for an extra kick.
McDonald’s has been steadily expanding its menu to be more inclusive, and the McVeggie joins recent additions like the Grilled Cheese Happy Meal and the Lettuce and Tomato Snack Wrap Happy Meal. Earlier this year, the chain also launched Oat Beverage for select McCafé drinks, another nod to changing guest preferences.
“Canadians asked for more options to meet modern lifestyles, and we listened,” said Francesca Cardarelli, Chief Marketing Officer at McDonald’s Canada. “The McVeggie isn’t just a sandwich, it’s a celebration of bold flavour and our commitment to serving all guests and their evolving tastes.”
Guests who tried the McVeggie sandwich during its regional test said they loved the flavour and quality. Starting September 16, you’ll be able to order it à la carte or as part of an Extra Value Meal with the brand’s beloved fries (made from 100% Canadian potatoes, of course).
Whether you’re vegetarian, flexitarian, or just curious to try something new, the McVeggie sandwich is McDonald’s answer to Canadians asking for more options.
