Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival is an annual two-day event uniting esteemed chefs and wine producers from Toronto and around the world with the brightest minds in medical research to support UHN’s world-leading programs. Last fall, hundreds of guests celebrated at Casa Loma on night one and in 14 private homes across the city on night two.
Founded by Todd Halpern in 2005, Grand Cru is the top fundraising food and wine festival in the world raising over $132 million for in support of UHN programs including: Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Sprott Department of Surgery, Krembil Brain Institute, Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research, Donald K. Johnson Eye Institute, McEwen Stem Cell Institute, Ajmera Transplant Centre, Schroeder Arthritis Institute and Diabetes Program. This year’s event alone raised over $5 million to support these programs.
Grand Cru Culinary Wine Festival didn’t end there. Night two included invitation-only private dining experiences with the world’s most esteemed chefs, including multi-Michelin-starred Daniel Boulud (Daniel) and Emmanuel Renaut (Flocons de Sel); the first woman at the helm of a restaurant awarded four stars by the New York Times, Melissa Rodriguez (Al Coro); and Toronto culinary masters Eron Novalski (Aria Ristorante) and Sash Simpson (Sash), and many more. Each unique five-star menu was custom designed to pair with fine wines selected by international vintners.
