Baby shower list: Mother holding baby

Just found out you’re pregnant? Congratulations! This is fantastic news and will change your life for the better. As you prepare for the arrival of a baby, you probably spend a lot of time making a list of your needs in order to have everything on hand for your life with a newborn. Tut tut! The world of motherhood is a vast industry and it is very easy to get lost, especially when we try to make a list of essentials so that our loved ones help us before the birth of baby. While there are a lot of great products that you will definitely need, there are also several items that are not essential, or that should rather be purchased only in case of real need. Here’s what not to put on your baby shower list:

Everything related to breastfeeding

So you’ve taken a look at the breast pump options on the market, and you’re determined to breastfeed, no matter what! Bravo, it’s a great decision and we encourage you to try breastfeeding if that’s what you want (I personally breastfed my little boy for almost a year, I didn’t even think I would ever breastfeed!). When it comes time to invest in an electric pump, we’re looking at a good investment in terms of budget, which is not possible for everyone. Even if many moms want to breastfeed more than anything, sometimes life decides otherwise and breastfeeding simply doesn’t work, which is why it’s better to wait and see how it goes before investing in this kind of machine. Otherwise, the Haaka manual pump is very inexpensive and can be a nice starting solution, just in case!

Motion devices to calm baby

Among the biggest investments in the world of the newborn are moving seats that allow you to calm or put your baby to sleep. These are very practical and many parents swear by these devices, but what is often forgotten is that some babies do not like this kind of movement. It is then difficult to know if the purchase will pay off, obviously, but this kind of device should not be used in the first weeks of a baby’s life (or very little if so), which then allows parents to assess whether the newborn likes this type of movement. Our advice: wait until you are sure before making this kind of purchase.

Swaddling pajamas

Once very popular, the practice of swaddling a baby is becoming more and more outdated, but social media seems to have revived this way of wrapping baby in a blanket in order to make them feel safe and warm to sleep. As the technique is somewhat difficult to master at the very beginning, especially among tired parents, you can find pajamas that imitate the swaddling effect and are therefore much simpler to use. While most babies like to be swaddled, many struggle against feeling caught up in a blanket or pajamas and instead need freedom to move, even if they are only a few days old! These pajamas are convenient, but can be useless if your baby does not like to be swaddled. Think about it before you invest in them!

Would you add anything to this baby shower list?
