3 Ways to Get Rid of Mosquitoes this Summer

I have always been very sensitive to mosquito bites. Not only does my skin seem to attract them more than I see with other people, but I also react very badly to bites (itch, redness, pain, etc.). Can you relate? That’s why I recently decided to test some ideas to keep these unwanted bugs away this summer!

1. Puressentiel Product Line, $12.99 in pharmacies

I like that the products found in this French brand are based in essential oils. I use their calming spray before going to bed, and I also like their products for aches and pains.  I was curious to test their mosquito-repellent range. My verdict? I love the idea of using natural products to keep the mosquitoes away. They are not only less harmful to our health, but they also smell much better than other products on the market. I liked the small soothing applicator that is applied after bites. This allowed me to get the pain and swelling down in seconds!

2. The NuTone Haven Mosquito Repellent System, $299 at Lowe’s

If you have a large backyard or spend a lot of time outdoors, consider a highly efficient system that will keep mosquitoes away. NuTone is an electrical system that works with pegs that are planted in the earth and emanate an odorless, invisible repellent.  It is a revolutionary system that changed my life!  Note that the installation requires a little bit of time (and attention) but it is very easy to use and will work for a few seasons.

3. Natural Plants

I was advised to get plants that keep mosquitoes away in my backyard. The idea may sound good, I must say that it is not extremely effective. Lavender and citronella are known to ward off mosquitoes, however, mint supposedly attracts them. My suggestion: put some of these potted plants on the table where you eat in order to maximize the repellent effect!

What are your tricks to keep mosquitoes away?
