It’s (almost) December so… it’s basically Christmas, right? We know you’re already planning your Christmas movie marathon – food, pyjamas, blankets…everything you need to usher in the season.
Just for you, we’ve rounded up a list of classic Christmas movies and some other film favourites to add to your watch-list this season:
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
Let’s settle this once and for all… Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is the best of the series! With a refreshing take on the franchise and a collection of lovable and eccentric characters, it’s hard to not love this film. And, it’s New York.
The entire Harry Potter series
Not that this is specifically Christmas-related, but we still think it deserves a spot on your Christmas watch-list. Fall in love all over again with young Daniel Radcliffe opening his Christmas gift in the first film (spoiler alert: it’s the invisibility cloak).
The Polar Express
The children’s epic directed by Zemeckis is one of those films that you have to watch with a group of friends and a lot of food. The film is a pioneer of live action motion capture animation and is a twist on your regular ‘search for Santa’ films.
Singin’ in the Rain
Arguably one of the best musicals of all time, Singin’ in the Rain is a wink at Hollywood’s transition between the silent era and the entry of sound in film. Funny, light-hearted, and romantic, fall in love all over again (or for the first time) with Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor.
Love Actually
The iconic ‘Christmas season love story’ obviously made it onto the list! Light-hearted romance and quirky dialogue meet in this ‘anthology’ of romantic stories signed by Richard Curtis.
Roman Holiday
If you want to take a break from Christmas movies, keep the movie marathon going with Roman Holiday. Starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, follow the short-lived yet completely adorable love story about a princess and a reporter.
Elf
Everyone’s favourite Christmas movie to quote around the Holidays, Elf is a funny and feel-good movie that you could watch all year long, tbh.
The Devil Wears Prada
A fashion film classic, The Devil Wears Prada is a rather biased look into the fashion journalism industry (seriously, we love our jobs here!), but we love to quote it – and re-watch it – especially around Christmas. Get your girls together!
