I recently went on a 5-day holiday where I decided to rough it, DIVINE style, and only bring one carry-on luggage. I was inspired by adventure traveler extraordinaire Cassie De Pecol, who partnered up with Gillette Venus for their launch of the Platinum Extra Smooth razor, the brand’s first metal handle for a boost in control, and to help motivate women to pursue their dreams with confidence and not let anything hold them back.
Cassie De Pecol is an amazing woman who set the Guinness World Records for “Fastest time to visit all sovereign countries” and “Fastest time to visit all sovereign countries – Female”. If she could travel the world with a back pack, then I could do a 3-hour flight with just a carry on. Remember roughing it is subjective. Here are some tips for making your own getaway a little easier:
Take care of your beauty routine before you go
If you are going on a shorter trip, for example, exfoliate your skin and do a mask at home so that you don’t waste space packing these items. Shave your legs the day that you leave so that you have two days where you don’t have to worry about stubble. Our pick is the Venus Platinum Extra Smooth razor. It has a stylish satin chrome finish that not only looks good, but is also heavier and ergonomically designed for increased control and precision shaving. The 5 diamond-like coated blades and 360-degree ribbon of moisture make you feel smoother longer. Pair it with your favourite shave gel (mine is the Gillette Venus Vanilla Cashmere), for a more comfortable shaving experience.
Bring a carry on if you can
It will save you time at the airport (both to and from your destination), you won’t have to pay for checked luggage and you don’t have to worry about your bag getting lost.
Know what the size restrictions are
In Canada, the weight limit is generally 10 kilograms, but check with your airline for more specific information and dimensions. You are also restricted when it comes to liquids, gels and aerosols – they cannot be in containers larger than 100 ml / 100 grams (3.4 oz). They must all fit in a one litre clear plastic bag. Make sure that these items are your favourite essentials!
Pack smart
Maximize the space in your carry on by rolling your items – this really works! Use the outside pockets, if you have them, for your personal care items and hair brushes to make more room for clothes. Lay out every item that you are thinking of bringing a few days in advance of your trip so that you are not rushing last minute. You can see if there are any duplicate items and leave those behind. A black skirt can be paired with any number of tops and look different each time, and if you stick to more neutral colours you can mix and match.
Be prepared
Don’t skimp on necessities either in your purse or in your luggage. Make room for an umbrella – it’s better to be safe than sorry. Check with your mobile phone provider on out of country data and phone packages – you never know when an emergency will happen or a flight cancellation. Make sure to keep your prescription medication in your purse so that you always have access to it. Have a small amount of local currency or a credit card with you just in case your app doesn’t work.
