Since it was #NationalLipstickDay on Sunday, we wanted to give you a basic lipstick tutorial in case you need a quick review on how to apply it.  Ready to get the perfect pout?

A post shared by M·A·C Cosmetics (@maccosmetics) on Jul 28, 2018 at 11:01am PDT

1. Apply a Lip Balm

First, apply a moisturizing balm to your lips to smooth them and help reduce crevices. This will also help to give a uniform look to the lipstick colour.

2. Use a Lip Liner

Always choose a colour that is similar to your own lips and not your lipstick. Before you draw a line with the lip liner, start by dotting a few points along the contour of your lips. Then, dragging very lightly, use the pencil to connect the dots between each other.

3. Apply the Lipstick

Always apply your lipstick beginning with the center of the upper lip and then moving towards the outer corners. Bring the product back to the center of your lip and extend it to the other corner, then repeat with the lower lip. If there are some areas that require more colour, apply a bit of product on your finger and pat the product on your lips to cover them completely.

4. Remove the Excess

Take a piece of tissue paper and fold it in half, then press your lips on it to remove any excess product. This will allow the lipstick to stay longer and also, not to get on your teeth. You can also put a bit of loose powder on the tissue before blotting to maximize its staying power. You are now ready to rock a perfect pout!
