There are very few days where something as routine as grabbing a coffee or picking up dinner can translate directly into meaningful support for families in crisis. McHappy Day is one of them.
Returning on Wednesday, May 6, this annual initiative from McDonald’s Canada invites Canadians to turn everyday orders into something far more impactful. For over 30 years, McHappy Day has brought communities together in support of families with critically ill children, raising more than $111.3 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada and other local children’s charities.
It’s a familiar concept, but one that continues to matter.
Why It Still Resonates
At its core, McHappy Day supports something deeply human: proximity.
Funds raised help power 37 Ronald McDonald House program locations across Canada, offering families a place to stay close to their child while they receive medical care. That includes not just accommodation, but meals, mental health support, and a sense of community during what is often an overwhelming time.
Last year alone, more than 32,000 families from 2,900 communities were supported.
Even with expansion across the country, the need continues to outpace capacity. Which is why participation, however small it may seem, still carries weight.
How to Take Part

On May 6, every order counts, whether you’re stopping in, using the Drive-Thru, ordering through the McDonald’s app, or using McDelivery through DoorDash, Skip, or Uber Eats (with $0 delivery fees available that day, though service fees still apply).
If you’re looking to contribute beyond your order, there are a few easy ways to do that:
- Pick up McHappy Day socks ($6 + tax)
- Add a $2, $5, or $10 Heart donation in-restaurant or through the app
It’s designed to meet people where they are – no planning required.
Other Ways to Give
Support for Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada extends beyond a single day.
Chatters Hair Salon is marking its 10th consecutive year of partnership with a nationwide in-salon fundraising campaign running from April 30 through June 4, 2026. Guests can donate $1, $3, or $5 at checkout, with Chatters matching contributions up to $15,000.
Since 2016, the initiative has raised more than $446,000 resulting in over 1,700 nights of accommodation for families navigating a child’s medical journey.
It’s a reminder that impact doesn’t always come from large gestures. More often, it’s built through consistent, collective action.
The Takeaway
McHappy Day works because it is so easy to give. It turns a transaction into support. And, ultimately, a small decision into something that helps keep families together when it matters most.
