Why Does Your Carpet Still Look Dirty After You Clean It?

Carpets might look great and make your home feel more comfortable but they are a hotbed for dust and bacteria. Over time, dirt gets trapped deep down in the fibers and it’s tough to clean out making your carpet still look dirty. Often, people feel like no matter how often they vacuum, the carpet still looks dirty afterward. In some cases, it might just be time for a new carpet. However, it could be down to mistakes that you are making with your cleaning routine. The good news is that  you can change the way you clean your carpet and get it looking as good as new. Here’s why your carpet might still look dirty after you clean it.

Carpet Still Look Dirty: Living Room

You Haven’t Emptied Your Vacuum

If you don’t empty your vacuum, the suction power will suffer. You will also be depositing lint and dirt from your carpet back onto it from the full bag. You should make sure to empty the container at the top of the vacuum every time you clean. That way you can rest assured that maximum suction power is being used on your carpets and upholstery. But when you don’t empty it, you are just pushing the vacuum over the carpet without actually sucking up much dust.

Your Vacuum Isn’t Powerful Enough

When was the last time you replaced your vacuum cleaner? If it’s been a while, that could be your problem. Old vacuum cleaners can struggle with pet hair and other debris. It’s probably time for a replacement if the machine is over five years old. They can lose suction over time as the parts wear down too. If you are struggling to keep your carpet clean, consider upgrading to a professional vacuum cleaner that will make short work of normal household dust. You’ll notice a huge difference once you replace your old vacuum and, hopefully, your carpet cleaning problems will be solved.

You Steamed Without Vacuuming First

Steam cleaning is a great cleaning hack to sanitize the fibers of your carpet and remove stains. However, people often make the mistake of doing it without vacuuming first. If you steam before you have vacuumed the carpet, all of the dust will stick to the moisture and sit on top of the carpet, making it look even dirtier than before. So, make sure that you remove all dust before you steam your carpets.

Wearing Shoes On The Carpet

If you are wearing shoes in the house, then that is probably the main reason that your carpet looks dirty. You need to stop doing this as it’s transferring all of the grime from outside onto your carpets. It doesn’t matter how clean those shoes look, they are still picking up dirt and other debris on their soles before depositing them on your carpets. If you want to keep them looking fresh, make sure to take your shoes off when you come indoors or you are just undoing all of the hard work you do when cleaning.

If you make some simple changes to the way that you clean and treat your carpet, you can keep it looking nicer for longer.
