If you are a fan of good wine and  looking for an idea for your next trip abroad, look no further! During my recent trip to Italy, I had the chance to visit the Donnafugata Vineyard in Sicily, one of the most famous vineyards in Italy. The good news? It is possible for anyone to visit this place, and there are a few different locations across the country. Welcome to Donnafugata!

The Story

The Donnafugata Vineyard is first, and foremost, about a family history of passion and complicity. Today, Gabriella Rallo manages the company alongside her son, Antonio, and her daughter, Josè. Together, they create vibrant, tasty and different wines.  The labels on each bottle showcase their love for art. Each label features a drawing that represents the wine, all inspired and imagined by Gabriella Rallo.

First Stop: Marsala

If you want to visit a giant cellar and learn more about wine tasting, stop by Marsala in Sicily. Visits are available all year long, and several tasting packages are available, depending on the price and time that you want to spend there. You will also have the chance to enjoy the beautiful pink building on the premises, and visit the cellars. This place is impressive and will make you more about their wine.

Second Stop: Pantelleria

If you want to see vineyards and walk through the vines, go to the island of Pantelleria during summer, and be charmed by this enchanting place! You can enjoy Donnafugata Wines, and admire the gardens and vineyards.  It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The island of Pantelleria is a true paradise and is full of beautiful sea views.

Third Stop: Contessa Entellina

If you venture into the Sicilian countryside, visit the vineyards for a night tour, where you can enjoy this beautiful place under the stars. A great event that celebrates good wine and life. What more could you ask for?

If you would like to familiarize yourself with Donnafugata Wines before embarking on this journey, here are our three suggestions, available at the SAQ in Quebec and the LCBO in Ontario!

Ben Ryé
A sweet, white wine that pairs well with a cheese plate or foie gras. It is impossible not to enjoy this dessert wine.

Mille e una notte
One of the most recognized Donnafugata wines, this red is robust, fruity and spicy and pairs well with meat. It is a little pricey, but definitely worth it.

Anthilia
A fruity, dry white wine that is perfect as an aperitif or paired with seafood. It is affordable and delicious!
