The fight for regulated online sports betting in Canada has been a long time in coming. On July 27, 2021, after much back and forth in the legislators, tribunals, and juries of public opinion, Canadians were finally able to bet freely. All of the nation’s sports lovers and those who want to wager on the events they care about now have access to an all-encompassing betting platform.

Below you will discover a comprehensive explanation of what legal sports gambling means, from how we got here to what to anticipate in each province, to the sports that Canadians may now bet on, and to the sportsbooks that will likely boom in the market. This guide will cover everything. Among other things, we’ll discuss how solitary betting will alter the Canadian betting environment.

Legitimate sports wagering in Canada isn’t a brand-new concept. The only way Canadians could wager on sports before August 27, 2021, was through parlays. Since the early 2000s, Canadians have had access to parlay-style sports gambling. What exactly does that mean? You might wager on the Super Pro Bowl or the Playoffs, for example. However, you couldn’t place one-off bets on them. As a result, your chances of winning were greatly diminished.

Before the implementation of Bill C-218 in July of 2021, it was all or nothing when it came to numerous wagers. But what about this moment? With the new rule in place, Canadian gamblers may wager on individual goods, which brings up a whole new universe of possibilities.

Some of the best sports betting sites in Canada are set to make an impact on the Canadian gambling market since some new laws have been legislated and they are set to launch on April 4, 2022. To begin offering service to gamblers in Ontario on that day, private firms must qualify with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).

The structure of Canada’s online betting market

In the United States, individual states are accountable for regulating all legal types of gambling. Most provinces have a lotto system, which hasn’t been very successful in the US market.

All of the provinces in Canada can set their own rules and regulations for gambling. Because sports wagering on a single event has been legalized, each province may decide how to best deploy this new product based on its own unique set of legislative objectives and market conditions.

When it comes to the introduction of solitary wagering in their respective marketplaces, provinces have chosen a more cautious approach. Though Ontario and BC hopped on board fast with this notion; other provinces have been more deliberate in contemplating the form their systems would take over the coming months and years.

C-218 bill explained

The concept of extending legal sports gambling in Canada had been around for a long time. Solitary betting has been a priority for certain lawmakers in the United States since the early 2000s, rather than only parlays that required users to gamble on more than one club or sport at a time. It wasn’t until March of 2021 that the new legislation was formed, offering a concrete platform to supporters of solitary wagering in Canada, that the concept of sports gambling expansion truly took up the pace. On the 23rd of July of 2021, legislators passed it by a vote of 57-20.

As a result of the regulation of sports gambling in the U.S., some have argued that Canadian authorities have been spurred into action. Just across the border from Canada, surrounding states like Wisconsin have sped up their gaming efforts with minimal setbacks.

Types of betting that are considered legal in Canada

Solitary wagering is now permitted in Canada, which has resulted in a larger pool of bets available to Canadians. As of July 27, 2021, and with the approval of Bill C-218, conventional wagers, and occasional side bets have gradually given to a comprehensive menu of betting alternatives. Canadians may now place bets on a variety of sports, including:

A live bet – Live Betting is a type of wagering that has grown in popularity in recent years and occurs after the game has already begun. The number of points scored in a half in basketball or football, for example, or the name of the player who scores next. The audience may participate in every minute of a game by placing bets in real-time. In recent years, the most common method to wager on sporting events has been through live betting. Those in Canada may now put real-time bets on the sports they’re watching.

The common wager — wager was allowed previously and will continue to be popular. You may place as many separate bets as you like, on the same or other sports. Winning one of these wagers might be a challenge. Make a mistake in one of your bets and you’ll lose the entire stake. However, if you manage to knock them all out, you will be rewarded handsomely.

The Moneyline bet – The easiest one in which you can predict the outcome of a match is the Moneyline. Depending on the bookmaker’s current odds, you can win or lose. In a money-line wager, the loser pays more than the winner.
