If you don’t already know Brunette the Label, the Canadian brand that launched the famous Babes supporting Babes quote, we are here to make help you discover it! The brand, led by Miriam Alden, creates items that highlight positive quotes and phrases. We also absolutely loved their most recent collaboration with Meiomi Wines, which included a sweater with the words PINOT please on the front; a must in our wardrobe this fall!

Miriam answered our #Girlboss questions, and here are her answers!

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I am a morning person. I am very productive in the morning. I have my best ideas in the evenings but by the end of the day, I am too tired to get things done, so I write down my thoughts and work on them in the morning.

What is your favorite item of clothing?

My Florence Vegan Leather Jacket!

Where do you go for drinks?

Most of the time, my rooftop! But for after work drinks, I’ve been going to The Keefer Bar in Vancouver and the Art Gallery Patio.

Your favorite places to shop?

I love shopping at our Brunette the Label flagship store on Union Street, and at  neighboring boutiques on the same street. I love to shop vintage and there are so many amazing vintage stores in Vancouver!

Who is your female role model?

I’m a huge Victoria Beckham fan. She is one of my biggest inspirations and my motivation to work in fashion. I love how she has been able to balance her family and business while managing to be a total boss babe.

Flats or heels?

Sneakers.

What makes you smile?

My husband, an amazing creative day at the office, my animals, my nephew Alden and my niece Pearl, and thinking of any travels or trips that I am about to go on.

Your favorite restaurant?

Nook Restaurant in Vancouver!

In your opinion, what is the hardest thing women have to face in 2018?

There is a major issue with being compared to others and the expectation of being able to do it all. I think that comparison has existed for a very long time, but I do think it is enhanced by social media. Despite this, I think there are some amazing things happening in 2018. We are coming together and using these changes to create a very collaborative community for women.

What is the last book you’ve read?

Last book I finished: Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan, and am currently reading: The Vanity Fair Diaries by Tina Brown.

Where would you like to go on your next trip?

I am going to Australia and Bali for my next trip, but I am really interested in going to Iceland because I want to see the Northern Lights! I also am dying to go to Mexico City.

Do you have a life motto?

Babes supporting babes!

What’s the one product that’s always in your purse?

I always have bronzer and Biologique Recherche lip balm.

What is one fact about you that would surprise others?

I can speak fluent Pig Latin, and I played football in high school on the boys’ team!

What changes concerning women would you like to see in 2018?

I think the changes are happening! We are collaborating together and supporting each other to build confidence and following our individual dreams. I think we need to build on the momentum and it is just going to get better and better! Keep uplifting each other (Brunette The Label’s vision: Uplift All Babes All Day Everyday) men and women alike.

What is something you’d like to do more often?

Stay home.

What advice would you like to give to today’s women?

Just because you are trying to grow yourself, doesn’t mean that you can’t uplift others at the same time. Also, to always follow your dreams and not let your fears get in the way.
