Your skin is essential to your general health and therefore you need to look for ways to manage your skin. A good skincare routine can make a difference. However, when we miss out on taking good care of our skin there are various skin conditions and disorders that can not only make keep our skin from looking it’s best but can make us feel uncomfortable about our appearance. Acne is one of the most common skin disorders caused when hair follicles are plugged with oil and dead skin cells. While there are many over-the-counter creams and cleansers readily available to treat the problem, it is important to know some of the acne causes are.

Here are 4 commonly unknown acne causes that you need to know.

Diet

The food that we eat can have a profound effect on our health, both physically and emotionally. You need to be clear about what food you eat and how it affects your body. The food we consume can influence our skin pH and acne issues can come up. Eating greasy foods may lead to more production of oil. Similarly, eating a high glycemic or high dairy diet can also lead to acne. If your skin is reacting, pay attention to how much sweets, bread, potatoes and pasta that you eat to manage and try reducing each of them to see if that impacts your skin. With the right diet, you may be above to improve acne naturally.

Stress

There are many skincare forums and websites that claim that stress can cause acne. The fact is that stress doesn’t directly cause acne. However, it can worsen an acne problem and make it hard for you to resolve the issue. When we are stressed, our bodies release corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH). This triggers the release of inflammatory cytokines which increases the production of oil which can clog the pores and lead to breakouts. This is why you must know how stress affects acne.

Dehydration

While we all know that drinking water has its benefits. Drinking water regularly will keep your skin supple and moisturized offering you perfect glowing skin. However, the production of oil in your skin increases when your skin has dehydrated. This can eventually lead to clogging of the pores and breakouts that can make things hard for you to manage. One of the benefits of drinking water is that it maintains the elasticity of your skin and increases hydration which controls the production of oil. Various studies have shown that people who stay hydrated are less likely to have acne.

Hormones

Hormones in our body can also be one of the reasons for acne. Better known as hormonal acne, this is typically associated with hormone fluctuations during puberty. This type of acne is found on the person’s nose, chin and forehead. Hormonal acne affects both men and women and can lead to clogged pores. The hormonal changes happening in the body can spike up oil production which can come in contact with the bacteria on the pores of your skin and that can lead to breakouts. It is also said that during this phase other health conditions like improper diet and lack of sleep can also influence these hormones and can be one of the causes of acne.
