Probiotics are “good” bacteria that complement your body’s natural collection of both good and bad bacteria to keep your gut healthy and balanced. They are beneficial to help maintain gastrointestinal (GI) health in adults, but did you know that toddlers and children can also benefit from taking a daily probiotic?  Probiotics can help children maintain their GI health. A balanced microbiota is important because it helps with digestion, fighting infections and protecting the body from toxins.

The microbiota of a toddler is different from an adult, so it is important to use a brand targeted toward their age group. Look for a product with toddler-friendly strains, like koena’s Toddler Daily which contains eight probiotic strains, in sachets easy to mix in water, that will help maintain their gastro intestinal health. If your child is three years or older, you can try koena’s grape-flavoured chewables with 13 kid-friendly strains and five billion CFUs per tablet. koena supplements are vegan and made without dairy, allergens or GMOs.

Here are some other tips to keeping your child’s digestive system healthy (three years and up)*:

  • Make sure that they are eating enough fibre. Some good sources are whole grains, fruits and vegetables.
