During the summer, you are going to be out in the sun having a good time with your friends and family. However, there are measures that you need to take to protect yourself. For example, use sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful ultraviolet rays. But, have you thought about protecting your eyes? Here are some ways you can make sure that you look after your vision this summer and beyond.

Purchase Good Sunglasses

While a lot of people view sunglasses as a fashion accessory, they are actually very important for your eyes. They protect your eyes from ultraviolet radiation that comes from the sun. This can bounce off of sidewalks, water and even sand. Therefore, you need to limit the exposure you have during the summer when the sun is shining. Ensure that any sunglasses you buy are going to offer 100 percent protection from ultraviolet radiation. This can lower the risk of snow blindness and cataracts.

Stop Rubbing Your Eyes

When you are out and about during the summer, allergies can aggravate your eyes. This can mean that you rub them a lot. But, it is important to stop doing this. Such a simple action can mean that you increase the risk of an eye infection, such as conjunctivitis. There have been a lot of great developments when it comes to your vision, such as through the Tej Kohli Cornea Program. But you still have to make sure that you are doing the basics to look after your eyes. This includes washing your hands on a regular basis and avoiding rubbing your eyes.

Enjoy a Good Night’s Rest

Never underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. Being tired can affect your vision, making your eyes uncomfortable, causing blurry vision and making them dry. It can also lead to you rubbing your eyes and increasing the risk for infection. So, while you want to have fun this summer, ensure that you also get enough sleep. You will feel a lot better for it and know you are also taking care of your vision.

Stay Hydrated and Healthy

The summer weather means that you are more likely to be dehydrated. Not only can this make you feel tired and sluggish, but it can also affect your eyes. For example, your eyes can become dry and feel sore. In order to maintain normal eye function, you should drink at least two litres of water every day. In addition, a healthy diet will be good for your eyes too. Particularly, foods containing vitamin C, zinc and vitamin E.

Wear Goggles When Swimming

Do you like to dive under the water at the swimming pool? Make sure that you purchase a pair of goggles to have fun. A lot of swimming pools contain chemicals, namely chlorine. Of course, this keeps the water clean for everyone. But there is the possibility that these chemicals can irritate your eyes. Therefore, the best thing you can do is wear goggles to stop this from happening this summer.
