4 Signs That It’s Time to Think About Replacing Your Residential Windows

Nothing lasts forever and that includes residential windows. If you own a home for long enough, the day will come when you need to in new windows in Barrie, ON for various reasons. Has that day arrived? If any of the following apply to you, it’s time to call a contractor and arrange for a visit to your home.

Opening and Closing the Windows is Difficult

One of the reasons why you have windows is so that you can open them when you want fresh air in the home and to close them when you want to keep the heat or the cold out. If your windows are beginning to wear out, opening and closing them may be a problem. While it’s true that you get a nice upper body workout by trying to raise sticking sashes or pushing them to a closed position, the process gets old after awhile.

In order to deal with this situation, it makes sense to invest in new windows. Once they’re in place, the struggle to raise and lower sashes will be over.  You’ll be relieved when it no longer takes five minutes to open and close the window.

They Won’t Stay Up When You Do Get Them Open

Even after you do manage to raise a sash, there are no guarantees that it will remain in position. Bitter experience has taught you that the sash could come crashing down within minutes of being raised. Up to this point, you may have sawed off broom handles to create props for each window. While effective, this approach calls for props of different lengths if you want to adjust the sash’s position. Think of how much nicer it would be to have new window sashes that stay exactly where you want them.

Those Old Windows have Single Pane Glass

Your older home was built in an era when single pane glass was the standard. Unfortunately, that glass doesn’t do a lot when it comes to controlling the temperature inside the home. What you need are windows with glass that’s more in line with current standards.

Choosing to invest in new windows allows you to select either double pane or triple pane windows. This improved glass is a more effective barrier when it comes to preventing cold air from seeping in during the winter and hot air during the summer. Along with giving you more control over the indoor temperature, the glass will also reduce the amount of energy your HVAC system consumes in order to maintain the climate inside the home.

No Amount of Cosmetic Work Makes the Windows Look Better

You’ve done everything that you can think of to improve the look of those old, tired windows. In spite of all the scraping, sanding, and painting, they still look worn out. Even if you give it another coat of fresh paint, the effect is only marginally successful.

New windows will be free of all these issues. In fact, you can choose materials that never have to be painted and are not subject to warping or rotting. Other than occasionally cleaning the windows, you won’t have to do anything to them. That one feature will make those new windows worth every penny.

Could you use new residential windows? Call a contractor today and explore your options. In no time at all, those new windows could be in place and you will be enjoying all the advantages that they bring.
