In another life, I was a Disney Princess.

Okay, I’ve got no actual proof of that, other than being told one day that I could play Cinderella, a compliment that, honestly, made my entire year. I love pretty dresses, sparkles, and heels, and did I mention I’m a sucker for fairytale weddings?

There’s no doubt: wedding dresses take up a lot of a bride’s brain space, but as Cinderella will tell you, a beautiful pair of shoes can change your life. Thanks to Canadian brands like Call It Spring, you don’t have to have a royal budget to get the gorgeous bridal shoes you’ve always dreamed about.

If you’re getting married this spring or summer, I’ve got five easy tips to help you pick the right bridal shoes for all elements of your wedding day. I’ve even hand-picked 10 stylish options that are sure to become closet favourites long after you’ve said “I Do.” The best part? They’re all under $90.

Start shopping early

Most brides hem their wedding dress, and getting the right measurements means bringing your bridal shoes to your alterations appointments. After all, sky-high platforms will give dramatically different results compared to ballerina flats.

With a minimum of two to three alterations appointments, each several weeks apart, that could put you a few months ahead of your wedding day, depending on your timeline. Shopping early gives you time to find your dream bridal shoes without derailing your alterations timeline—or worse, spending big on costly fixes.

Bonus tips: alterations appointments can book up fast, so schedule all alterations appointments ASAP to get your preferred times and avoid remembering at the last minute. Also, be sure to consult your seamstress and bridal stylist ahead of time to ensure you have everything you need for your alterations appointments.

The Socialite

Kick off the party with these glittery, all-over-pearl platforms.

Go for a block heel

Walking on your tip-toes to avoid puncturing the ground with your stilettos is not how you want to remember walking down the aisle. Enter the block heel (my personal favourite!) which will give you the height and silhouette you want without aerating the lawn during your outdoor wedding.

Effortlessly You

These heels are, well, effortless. Wedding-ready for any bride and sure to be well-loved additions to your closet.

Statement straps

I love the simplicity of these heeled sandals. The block heel makes them a perfect choice for an outdoor wedding—or future date nights!

A Touch of Glam

If you want timeless shoes with just a touch of glam, Veloura has you covered. For full glam, they come in silver too.

Give yourself permission

I received some great advice about wedding day hairstyles that I believe applies to bridal shoes too: don’t make choices for your wedding that you’d never choose for yourself any other day. For example: if you cannot stand wearing heels, don’t pick heels for your wedding day. It’s that simple.

After all, this is your day (not anyone else’s, despite what you may be hearing), so give yourself permission to say ‘no’ to things that aren’t natural or comfortable for you, especially choices that’ll give you painful cuts and blisters. If that means wearing flat or unconventional shoes that express who you are, you’ve got my blessing.

Tennis Club Chic

If you want a comfy pair of shoes and you can’t get enough of the tennis club chic moment we’re in, these sneakers are for you. And if you want a little more personality, you can get the most adorable stitched strawberries on them too!

Get ready to dance

If you’ll be wearing heels during your ceremony and photoshoot, make sure you’ve got flat bridal shoes you can quickly change into during your reception. We all know what it feels like to have our feet throw in the towel after suffering a full day in heels. Don’t let that happen before you hit the dance floor.

Dancing Queen

There’s nothing like a pair of ballerina flats to unleash your inner dancing queen.

Flower Power

I love the pretty floral stitching on these Mary Jane’s. Candidates for all-day wear if you ask me!

Don’t blow your budget

Getting sucked into the wedding craze often comes with overlooking price tags that would, in any other circumstances, make your jaw completely hit the floor. Let’s say a collective goodbye to the myth that we’ve got to pick eye-wateringly expensive bridal shoes we will never wear again just because it’s our wedding day.

Going shopping without a budget in mind means we get tempted to lift our financial ceiling, especially when we find beautiful and pricey shoes we’re suddenly convinced we can’t live without. It’s not always huge expenses that lead to an out-of-control wedding budget. Have a number in mind before you start shopping and stick to it.

With Call It Spring on your side, you can have your dream bridal shoes and stay within your budget. You won’t believe these ones are all under $75!

In your ‘it-girl’ era

The 90s have returned, and we’re here for it. The floral appliqués on these thong kitten heels strike the perfect balance between flirty and bridal.

Stitch perfect

I love a spring wedding for the sunshine, pastels, and wildflowers, which is why I adore the dainty floral embroidery on these kitten heels.
