From Jacquemus’ palm-sized “Mini Le Chiquito” bag to Longchamp’s  La Voyageuse  tote, these are exciting times for handbags. We are glad the era of the season’s IT bag is long gone. Designers are now more creative with their designs, especially this fall. This season, there are chains and feathers, cool handles and geometric shapes, croc to tiger prints and more. Here are five on-trend hangbags from Canadian designers that we love.  We have taken into consideration the needs of the modern woman, the occasion and the change in season. This is the perfect time to get yourself a DIVINE new purse or two to freshen up your look!

Fall for Geometric Magic that is Handmade with Love in Toronto

Azurelazuli Bag

The Kahlo Bag from AZURE LAZULI embodies the power structure trend for bags this fall. This Canadian brand is all about architectural forms and bohemian details. The creator, Ashley Phillips, is a practicing architect who launched the leather line in 2018 in North America. The brand had its European launch at the fall 2019 London Fashion Week. Fashionable Canadians love the fact that her bags are all handmade right here in downtown Toronto. The Kahlo bag is in luxurious leather and lined in suede. It has a flap with magnetic closure and comes with an adjustable shoulder strap. This black geometric magic is also available in a rich chocolate brown.

Carefree and Sassy with the 1970s crossover

Roots Crossover Bag

We adore the 1970’s crossover in so many of the Fall 2019 designer collections including Celine and Gucci. The design is simple and carefree. If you are going for this look, make sure you invest in quality leather that will help you survive your workweek in style. For this, we look to Roots. We love their beautiful archival favourite in the perfect brown. And yes, this bag is still made-in-Canada. It has the perfect balance of modern and vintage vibes. There is a front flap with a buckle, an adjustable shoulder strap and multiple pockets. The Roots’ Saddle Woven is available in the featured brown.

Get Flapper for your Evening Out

Simons Evening Bag

We are in love with this 1920’s inspired mesh evening purse from Simons. The Toronto International Film Festival and the Downton Abbey movie in theatres now have definitely gotten us into the mood. We love the escape to old school glamour. The French fashion retailer has also updated the shape to fit our mobile phones and essentials for a night out. The purse is lined in satin and comes with a removable chain shoulder strap. This black flapper piece also comes in gold, leopard and holographic mesh.

Jumbo Tote Bag to fit EVERYTHING

Matt & Nat Tote

In the words of rapper Fabolous, “Just throw it in the bag.” This season’s jumbo totes are show-stoppers. From a more practical standpoint, we found the Raylanmed Bag from Matt & Nat fits everything a DIVINISTA needs to carry. What really sold us is the built-in 13″ laptop compartment. Even though this is really a diaper bag, this well-designed functional marvel will do the job for anyone. It comes with two front pockets perfect for our phones and keys. The bag has a top zipper closure and comes with an adjustable, removable strap. The grey bag also comes in black and brown. If you do not need the changing pad that is included, consider donating it to a neighbourhood charity for new moms in need.

The Green Effect is the Little EXTRA You Need This Fall!

AI Toronto Seoul

We adore Kelly Green bags this season! The colour really pops on any outfit. As we were scouring for the perfect green purse, we ran into Hannah Kim from up-and-coming AI Toronto Seoul at Toronto Fashion Week. She showed us her new Park Bag in bright green and it even comes with a removable matching pouch! There is also a detachable strap. We were instantly sold with the design details and the price. The Park bag is also available in five other colours, including black and brown. One thing to note about this brand, the bags are handmade in limited quantities. So do not wait, get your Green Park now!
